New scene (and six older) for Matthew Vaughn’s superhero prequel X-Men: First Class debuted today. The action moves back to the ’60s as young mutants Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) get caught up in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Here is a X-Men: First Class two character posters released by 20th Century Fox, an upcoming superhero flick from ‘Star Dust’ and ‘Kick-Ass’ director, Matthew Vaughn.

Synopsis:
The young ranks of the X-Men mutant supergroup are mined in this youth-minded installment, directed by Kick-Ass’ Matthew Vaughn. Taking its title from the 2006 comic, the feature will focus on the early years of Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) as they develop the Mutant School for Gifted Youngsters. Lauren Shuler-Donner and Simon Kinberg handle producing duties on the 20th Century Fox production.

“X-Men: First Class” is about the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where there relationship took a wrong turn. There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from “X-Men” will figure into the plot. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.

A Wolverine sequel, a ‘Deadpool’ spin-off movie, a possible ‘X-Men Origins: Magneto’ and ‘X-Men: First Class’ — which would revolve around a young Scott, Jean, and Beast during their first year at Xavier’s school for mutants — have already been established as viable projects.

The last “X-Men” movie, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, itself is a prequel to the “X-Men” trilogy. It chronicles the violent and romantic early life of the titular character, including his participation on the Weapon X program and his complex relationship with Victor Creed.

On the occasion, the producer of “The Vampire’s Assistant” has also slammed down reports that “X-Men: First Class” will begin production sometime after February 2010. She, as reported by Slash Film, stated that there’s no truth to report at all. She further insisted that “First Class” is yet to have a scheduled start date and no actors have signed contracts to appear.
