In Daybreakers, vampires have taken over and hunt down the human survivors for food. However, with the human population dwindling, humans are being farmed for their blood. Ethan Hawke stars as a vampire who is sympathetic to the human cause and is willing to help out the human survivors.

Opening in theaters on January 8, the Spierig brothers Daybreakers stars Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Claudia Karvan, Michael Dorman, Vince Colosimo, Isabel Lucas and Sam Neill.

Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.

Daybreakers arrives in theaters January 8, 2010.
