“Dear John” with Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, earned $ 32.4 million during the Super Bowl weekend and at the same time sends “Avatar” away from the first place of box office list.

Sony distribution topper Rony Bruer, who has been optimistic about “Dear John” said:”We felt right from the beginning that we had something with this picture. But I don’t think anybody could have anticipated that it would do this well.” Some  analysts thought that this drama had a great backup by fantastic marketing towards female audience.

On the third place is “From Paris with love” which made $ 8.1 million, further on the list are “Edge of the Darkness” and “Tooth Fairy”.

MarketShow has noted that the sequel of the highly successful movie “Avatar” may not come so fast. This site claimed that the source told that the sequel for “Avatar” will be made within four years, and that we still don’t know when the pre-production for this project will be started.

The site also reported that it was told that the sequal won’t take place on the moon Pandora and that it will be a full blown war. Joel David Moore in his conversation with MTV said that James Cameron has spokent with the cast members about his ideas for the sequel.

“There have been conversations about certain ways to go,” the actor who plays anthropologist Norm Spellman in the big-budget movie said, before adding “Of course nothings set in stone. I love all the ideas.”

On December 18th, 2009 “Avatar” was first released, on February 1st,2010 the movie has earned an amount of $ 595.8 million and become the highest worldwide grosser if all time with $ 2.04 billion global revenue.

It is now official: Avatar broke the record as the highest worldwide grosser. On Tuesday, 26th, January, 20th Century reported that the big budget sci-fi has earned $ 1.859 billion. This amount of money passed the $ 1.843 billion earned by Titanic in 1997.

People from New Corp, which is in possession of 20th Century Fox, believe that the Avatar worldwide will reach fantastic amount of $ 2 billion.

Cameron spoke to channel E at the Producers Guild of America Awards about the story for the sequel:”We just have to come up with a great story, which we haven’t done yet. I have a rough story,” the filmmaker teased. “But you need to make a script, so that might take some time. Don’t start going to buy your tickets.”

Avatar follows former marine Jake Sully who embarks on a journey to distant moon Pandora to join Avatar program and later leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The flick has been named Best Motion Picture at the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and aided its director James Cameron to land Best Director gong at the same event.

This puts Avatar on track to topple The Dark Knight as the second highest grossing film of all time. The numbers aren’t in yet, but according to Variety, Avatar is estimated to earn well over The Dark Knights haul of $533.3 million by Monday morning.

For now,  Avatar is only $74.9 million away from sinking Titanic to become the number one domestic grossing film of all time. Internationally, it is suspected to top Titanic’s worldwide grosses of $1.242 billion this weekend. With an Oscar win suspected in the very near future, there is no telling how much money Avatar will earn  by the end of its theatrical run.
