Stellan Skarsgard Joins the Cast of “Thor”
Swedish-born Stellan Skarsgardhas been added to the cast of Marvel Studios’ “Thor” movie. Skarsgard joins Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Jaimie Alexander (Sif), Colm Feore and Brian Blessed (Odin).
The 58 year old actor was initially asked to join the Thor cast without being given a chance to read the script. This was due to Marvel’s efforts to keep plot details secure and secret but that wouldn’t work for Stellan.
Stellan is not the only Skarsgard linked to this Marvel’s comics adaptation. In early 2009, his son Alexander Skarsgard was listed among the potential candidates to portray the titular character, Thor. However, the younger Skarsgard lost the role to Chris Hemsworth.
Production of “Thor” is set to start in 2010 and Paramount is eying a May 20, 2011 for premiere across US.
